About the event
Yoga has a rich history that has grown and evolved over time. In this online workshop we will be taking a moment to reflect on what we perceive yoga to be in our experience before taking a look back at the origins of yoga, some of the key texts and proliferators. After looking at the history and journey of how the practice has transformed into what we know and understand as yoga in the modern world we will have an open discussion around things like:
- What is yoga?
- Why have certain practices changed?
- Why have certain aspects of the practice remained, or become less prominent?
- How do we continue to practice in a respectful way that honours its origins and remains relevant in a modern context?
This is a huge subject, so we will only be touching on the surface. This is open to anyone with an interest in yoga who would like to nurture and expand their understanding of the practice by listening and sharing with others in the yoga community in a respectful way.
Note: I am not a scholar, this will simply be the information that has been passed to me via formal trainings, independent research and personal studies (original sources will be shared). My main objective is to hold a space for discussion as a spring board for your continual and personal exploration of yoga.
